Plant One Million (P1M) is an ambitious multi-state tree-planting campaign to plant one million trees, encompassing 13 counties in PA, NJ, and DE. This effort is led by the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, the Delaware Center for Horticulture, and the NJ Tree Foundation – because we can accomplish more together!
In New Jersey, the counties included in P1M are Mercer, Camden, Gloucester, Burlington and Salem. If you live in one of these counties and are planting a tree, please have your tree counted as part of P1M. If you would rather the NJ Tree Foundation plant a tree for you, please click here and in the comments box write New Jersey.
Here are some of the exciting projects we’ve done under P1M!
Trees for Moorestown High School (Fall 2014)
With support from American Forests and IKEA, the NJ Tree Foundation, local partners, and 50 amazing volunteers planted 10 large shade trees along the Moorestown High School recreational field and cross country trail in September of 2014! Thank you to the Moorestown Shade Tree and Preservation Committee, Moorestown Public Schools, the Brickman Group, and Fernbrook Nurseries for your assistance with this project! This planting took place in Burlington County.
North Camden Celebrates Plant One Million (Spring 2013)
In April of 2013, the city of Camden partnered with the NJ Tree Foundation, the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS), local organizations and volunteers to celebrate Plant One Million! Planting 41 trees on seven blocks with 103 volunteers, this event beautified the North Camden community while uniting its residents. Special thanks to PHS for sponsoring this event, United Water Camden and MAFCO for their donations, the Camden Board of Education for their partnership, and all the hard working volunteers and staff for a job well done!
Tree Giveaways (2012)
In 2012, with support from the USDA Forest Service, the NJ Tree Foundation started a “Tree in Every Yard” campaign to give away 1,000 trees in NJ’s P1M communities. The photo to the right demonstrates the size of our giveaway trees. At this time, our “Tree in Every Yard” program is closed, but the NJ Tree Foundation is seeking resources for future tree giveaways.
